My name is Veronica, and I’m a lot of things. I’m a journalist with more than five years of professional experience writing and editing for publication (everything from in-depth investigative articles to academic theses to television scripts and screenplays)… I’m a marketing consultant who has been paid buckets of money to cruise the world selling everything from diamonds to luxury watches to kettle corn, with brevity and panache…. I’m a die-hard social media enthusiast and amateur graphic designer. I’ve been an avid blogger since 2005. I’m an acquisitions team member and marketing editor for REUTS Publications. Oh, and I’m also an author who writes dark and twisty (yet hilarious) YA and NA fiction. (Under an alias, of course. How’s that for superhero-like double identity, eh?)

- I’m a Whedon fangirl, with a pretty religious appreciation for all things nerdy, quippy and dark.
- My first query letter for my first book got five full requests from agents within the first month of querying, and an offer of rep shortly after.
- I have a ginger cat named Skeletor, who I rescued from skeletal status as a kitten and is now getting quite fat, actually.
- I’m still waiting for Dean Winchester to come and save me from hell. Cause if not, I’m totally going to end up there. Crowley’s pretty cool though, so either way I’m fine with it.
- I enjoy watching really bad Syfy movies, obscure Canadian TV shows (though I am not even slightly Canadian, sadly) and British historical dramas which have been blown seriously out of proportion.
Why should you choose me as your Pitch Wars mentor?
Simple. I’m in it to win it. My command of obscure movie quotation is unparalleled. I’ve won or placed in a lot of short story competitions in my life, which means I know how to say a LOT with very few words. I recently judged the Like a Virgin pitch contest. During my lifetime, I have been referred to as “semantically OCD” and a “grammar Nazi with a heart of gold” dozens of times. (Okay, so the heart of gold part was just the one time. But I swear it’s true!)
And yet, even with all of my writing/editing experience, I couldn’t have finished a single novel if it wasn’t for the support of my fellow writers, which means I’m seriously dedicated to strengthening the writing community by paying it forward. And most importantly, I WILL NOT REST until your pitch is as sizzling and polished and downright DROOLWORTHY as it can possibly be.
So pick me, and let’s kick this Pitch Wars party up a notch.
Favorite Genres/Themes:
- Contemporary: I like my stories sexy, gritty, contemporary, and hilarious.
- Romance, Romantic Suspense, Thriller: I love it when a book takes my breath away and kicks my heart rate up to dangerous levels!
- Remixes of the Classics: Jason and the Argonauts, retold as a college road trip? YES. Persephone and Hades in the NYC fashion industry? GOOD GOD. Think classic tale with a modern, sellable twist. And then send it to me, immediately.
- A Whole New World: Got something set in a really obscure or niche environment, like the underground fruit packing industry? Chess team? Southern Baptist Cosplay Society? The more abnormal, the better.
