Sufficed to say, I’ve never really understood that saying.

I mean, I used to think “that will suffice” meant something along the lines of “that’s plenty.” Or “that’s more than enough.” Sufficient, of course, being the general idea behind both of these terms. But I was wrong.

Here’s what it actually means:

“sufficient – of a quantity that can fulfill a need or requirement but without being abundant” (pasted from Webster’s Dictionary app)

Interesting. So, what the semantics are basically suggesting is that you can never have enough of a good thing. If something suffices, if it’s sufficient, then it must complete you. Even if you never knew how much you needed it, you always probably did.

And when it’s gone, you absolutely WILL miss it.

That’s what Thursday’s Children has become for me: my sufficient addiction. It filled a hole in my life that I didn’t even realize existed. (Or if I did, I refused to admit it to myself.)

Being a part of TC inspired me, it brought me hope, it put me in touch with people whose opinions matter, whose personalities I can’t seem to get enough of. It showed me that, contrary to how I sometimes felt as a marooned writer, I was NOT alone. It even offered me a place in a community where I felt welcomed, and supported, and quite often in awe.

Sufficed to say, I really don’t know how I’m going to live without you all.

So… Thanks for everything.

And Thanks ALWAYS to Rhiann and Kristina, for all you’ve done and all you continue to do for the writing community.
