A Dead Silence or a Pregnant Pause…?

Heads up: this is going to be a really stupid post. For one thing, I’ve just finished watching the movie Jennifer’s Body (totally underrated horror-comedy, IMO) in my pajamas, in the middle of the day. So my mood could be accurately defined as “fatalistic, with a hint of self-deprication.”

That said, here’s the rhetorical question of the day:

If you’re waiting for news, and instead you get silence, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Or is it more of a Schrodinger’s Cat sort of situation? (In other words, is it alternately a good AND a bad thing, until you open the box/e-mail and find out “for sure” whether your cat/dream of publication is alive or dead.) Paradox, I think that’s the word.

Though, there’s also a popular saying, “No news is good news.” I’m pretty sure that had something to do with Civil War wives, though, because in this day and age I can’t imagine how no news (unless we’re talking the Fox variety–no offense) could possibly be a healthy or a good thing. To me, it just feels a lot like waiting in the dark. Cold, helpless and alone.

And there you have it. I’ve got no answers today. (See? I told you this would be a stupid post.)
